Is a facebook and actual Melbourne based group that meets once a month, it has grown out of a coming together of computer programming groups “patching circles” and handmade musical instrument interests but includes many artform interests including visual design and animation installation and performances.
For instance see Chris Vik premiering work with Kinect sensor and Max Msp at Handmade Music Festival in 2012,
and Handmade Instruments at the Bendigo Art Gallery in 2013( demonstrating circuit bent household iron)
Open Lab applies the sharing sprit and openess of Open source software to the individual and community development of arts practice bringing together artists, designers, musicians, performers of all styles and levels of experience.

“OPEN LAB”’s monthly meetings have included local and international artists and designers including Chris Vik demonstrating his latest work with Kinect Sensor and Occulus Rift Glasses.
Links related to Chris VIk and Ehtnotek’s work including animated graphics synched/performed via original music and dance.
Chris Vik has developed his own software to interpret motion capture from Kinekt camera to control animation and sound . His software is called “kinektor” made in visual media programming software max-msp( pd is the open source alternative for this program written by the same original designer of max-msp)

The Electron Workshop also runs public talks and workshops may be a great future collaborative workspace or source of advice and collaborators for your future projects.

The event showcased a wide variety of areas of interest, including 3D Printing, Robotics, Crafting, LED lighting, Woodworking, Aquaponics, Musical Instruments and Vehicles.
Due in part to feedback from the last event, we’re also trying out contributor sales for this event, so if that’s something that interests you, let us know on your submission.
